Finally, after literally years of waiting, we have a more pinpointed Space 220 opening date! This one of of a kind restaurant has been a bit of an albatross for Disney as it his delay after delay, and then a pandemic, but the time has almost arrived!

Once again, we still don’t have a lot of specific details, but Disney is starting to tease us with a better look at what to expect.

Of course, all of the details should get released in the coming weeks. I’ll keep this updated as Disney provides that information.

Where is Space 220 Restaurant?

Space 220 Restaurant is located in Epcot, right next door to Mission Space. As if it could possibly be located anywhere else, it’s simply the perfect location.

Space 220 Opening Date

We now have an official opening date! Space 220 opens for dining on September 20, 2021. Space 220 will be open as a walk up option only from September 20-26. After that, you’ll need a reservation.

By opening in mid-September, it gives the Cast Members some time to work out the kinks in the system before the parks are inundated with crazy high crowds for the 50th anniversary.

When Can I Make Space 220 Reservations?

We finally have an answer to this question! You can make reservations for Space 220 starting on September 20, 2021. The first date available for reservation is September 27.

This is going to be a VERY challenging reservation to get so make sure you’re in top form come reservation day.

Make sure you understand how to make dining reservations at Disney as there’s no room for error with Space 220.

Space 220 Restaurant Theme and Experience

Here’s where things start to get exciting. Space 220 is a restaurant like no other.

Space 220 is designed to be an immersive experience, one that takes you 220 miles into outer space. Your trip starts when you check in at the Space 220 Departure Lounge in Future World.

Part of how Disney tries to make this more of an “experience” than just a meal begins with how the building is designed. As I mentioned, the entrance is located off to the side of Mission: Space.

However, the actual building itself is in the backstage area, not meant to be seen. This is reminiscent of how they are designing the new Star Wars hotel which opens Spring 2022.

As soon as you step into the entrance, your immersive journey begins, with no pesky details such as seeing a building to pull you from the atmosphere.

Once you do enter the Space 220 Departure Lounge, you board one of two “space elevators” which whisk you off to space. Guests ride the elevator to Centauri Space Center.

While riding the elevator you’ll be able to see Epcot and Earth getting smaller, and the space station getting closer.

Space 220 Dining Area

Once you exit your space elevator, you enter the Centauri Space Center themed dining area. This area is lined by panoramic “windows” out into space.

You’ll be able to view a panoramic view of Earth, as well as work and leisure activities taking place around the space station.

There are booths that line the perimeter of the dining, right along those panoramic views. Towards the interior of the space you’ll find groupings of tables and chairs.

Space 220 Menu

We finally have a menu! And is a pretty big menu at that.

Remember, for lunch you choose one appetizer and one entree; for dinner you get one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert.

For kids, they get the same at both meals: an entree, a dessert, and a beverage.

In addition to the menu items I’ve listed below, there is also a Lounge Menu. To get the details on that, check out the official menu.

Space 220 Pricing

Pricing is about where I’d expect, actually lower than I might have anticipated.

  • Lunch (adults age 10 and up): $55 for two courses
  • Dinner (adults age 10 and up): $79 for three courses
  • Lunch (kids age 9 and under): $29 for two courses plus beverage
  • Dinner (kids age 9 and under): $29 for two courses plus beverage

The rub is really when you have kids over the age of 10. Sure, there are many teenagers who could easily eat that much money’s worth of food. But most 10 year olds and pre-teens simply don’t.

My almost 13 year old would still want to choose something off of the kids menu here, because let’s face it, she’s a kid. The thought of paying up to $80 for her to eat a fraction of the food she’s given is not appealing to me.

And this is a shame because the environment is such a neat experience for kids.

Thoughts and Opinion

I’ve been excited at the prospect of Space 220 Restaurant ever since I heard it announced at D23 a few years ago. For me, it represents so much of what a Disney World vacation is about: immersion.

Let’s face it, we’re not paying ridiculous prices just to go to any old amusement park. The way that Disney pulls off theming and immersion is what sets it apart from other places.

I think Space 220 embodies that to a T. This is refreshing considering some of the ways the Disney experience has been stripped down recently.

If done well, I think this dining experience could be something really special. What remains to be seen is whether reality meets expectations.

It better or that will be a huge disappointment.

I’ve seen some people pining away for character involvement here, specifically Star Wars, but I hope that never comes to be. Not everything at Disney needs to be devoted to IP.

There is enough that is amazing and fantastical about the idea of being in space, I hope the focus remains on that. Of course, I’m someone who’s been fascinated by the idea of space travel since I was a kid. Clearly, this concept has me hook, line, and sinker.

As soon as Disney opens up booking for Space 220, I’ll be the first in line trying to get reservations for my next trip. I can only hope I’m first in line because otherwise it will be a long day waiting and hoping I nab myself a table.

Below you’ll find a video that Disney released that gives perhaps the best teaser we’ve had so far for Space 220. I hope it makes you as excited as it makes me.

Right now it doesn’t have much information, but it’s a good idea to keep an eye on Disney’s official Space 220 Restaurant page. I expect this to update with a lot of information in the coming days.
